My orthotics story:
Many years ago
I went to a podiatrist to help me with my aching feet.  He recommended orthotics.  After casting my feet he created a pair of plastic, rigid orthotics.  After I wore them for a few hours my feet began to ache!  These hard plastic orthotics were just not natural...just not comfortable and definitely not adjustable.  He tried to adjust them by shaving them down to no avail...  $180 (not affordable either!) out the door and I still had sore feet!   This was ten years ago!  Now the chiropractors, podiatrists and doctors are getting $300-$400 for a pair of non-adjustable, plastic or foam (petroleum) orthotics.

"Hey Brett,
Thanks for sending the buckwheat husks for my orthotics...the orthotics are so comfortable and supportive and I wear them everyday.
Thanks again!
Glenn Barclay"

"I'm very happy with them!  Especially the toe stimulation...my feet feel so alive at the end of the day when I take off my shoes.  Great job!
David"

"Thank you for the orthotics--I have been using them in my house shoes (I wear shoes inside because of my lift) and I've really enjoyed feeling the support.  I also love that I don't have to wear socks!  Awesome.  I will let you know in a couple of weeks when to schedule another massage.
--A"

Over the last five years I have invented & developed the most wonderful, ADJUSTABLE, AFFORDABLE, NATURAL, custom orthotics right here in Asheville, NC.  I am very excited to offer them to you!  These orthotics are all natural, conform perfectly to your feet and unlike plastic or foam orthotics, they're adjustable to whatever amount of arch support that you need.  (That amount of support changes constantly just like the seasons, because of course, you and your feet are also natural.)  My Asheville orthotics are made out of durable wool and utilize a natural support mechanism (buckwheat hulls) for your arch that can be changed as your feet adjust to the increased need for tension.  That is the key to their success!  Building more and more support over time makes your feet and leg muscles stronger!  It also changes your posture for the better!  Obviously these changes need to be gradual!  With my adjustable, natural, comfortable orthotics you can start out with just a small amount of support and work your way up.  These comfortable orthotics are so adjustable that you can add one teaspoon of buckwheat hulls at a time and you will actually be able to feel the difference too!

Years of hard work!
I have spent a long time perfecting these custom orthotics so that they are durable, comfortable, and all natural (healthy).  I've probably made 100 orthotics prototypes over the last six years!  First I started with having a seamstress sew a pocket on top of a foam insert that I bought at the drug store!  These very experimental orthotics were actually a success!  In the beginning I filled them too full of buckwheat hulls and I had to reduce the arch support by about half.  It was so cool to have total control over my arch support!  Within days I was very excited - wanting to create a patent for my new orthotics!   Soon thereafter I learned how to sew and I could make my orthotics all on my own.  Initially I thought that a heavy denim would be the best material for the orthotics.  Unfortunately, after wearing them for a few months I would wear a hole in the ball or heal area of the orthotics.  I tried heavy hemp, silk and other strong fabrics to no avail...  Then, after I moved to Asheville I decided to use leather for the orthotics.  The leather did not wear out and it lasted a long, long time.  For a couple of years I was really happy with the leather orthotics until I read that leather is quite toxic.  I had also recently become a vegetarian and really wanted to create an Asheville orthotic that reflected my new lifestyle and mindset.
Last spring I shaved my dog Chakra and decided to take the hair out to the compost pile.  When I tried to dig the hair into the dirt it didn't want to cut so I just buried it thinking that it would break down eventually.  It didn't!  Even months later that hair was in tact and still wouldn't cut with a shovel.  That's when it dawned on me that the best custom orthotic needed to be made out of hair...sheep's hair...wool!  (No, not dogs hair!)  They make socks out of wool.  Maybe the orthotics would be great made out of wool too!  I happened to have some blue colored wool left over from a hat project.  They came out great and I wore them all summer in sandals and without any socks.  I had never wore sandals without socks because I like my feet to feel dry but the orthotics wicked away sweat so great that I no longer needed socks!  Awesome!  So now I make my North Carolina orthotics out of heavy 100% wool.  Wool is so friction resistant and comfortable for the feet!  I have not wore a hole in those orthotics yet and it has been almost a year.  Now I'm making the arch supports out of wool that is twice as thick as the blue wool used in the beginning!  The new ones are sure to last for many years.  Also, you can easily wash the wool orthotics...just don't dry in the dryer or they will shrink!  Hang them up to dry.

Try my orthotics!  You will love them!

Orthotics & Arch Supports - Educate Yourself - Natural and Adjustable is Better!

Orthotics for supporting the arch of your feet are so important for good health. Too much pressure on the balls and heels of the feet creates imbalance and dis-ease. Putting some of the pressure created from the weight of your body onto the middle of the foot by using an arch support in your shoes can prevent plantar fasciitis (an irritation and swelling of the thick tissue on the bottom of the foot) and also heel spurs (a hook of bone that forms on the bone at the back of the foot). This article addresses exactly what makes a good insert and why.
For the last 20 years it has been my firm belief that the human body will thrive in good health when it is rewarded with natural things and usually fails in sickness when exposed to synthetics. For example, lets talk about arch supports for shoes, or as they are often called, orthotics. Almost all of the foot supports made now days are made of plastic or foam. These materials are created from petroleum (oil) and various chemicals. It has only been in just the last several decades that we have been exposed to so many synthetics and chemicals that are toxic to our bodies. We have much to learn about the ramifications of our ignorance. Wouldn't it be smart to stay way from direct exposure to these toxins?
I recommend that everyone learn about environmental hazards and how to reduce them from an incredible book called "Creating A Healthy Household" by Lynn Marie Bower. This is a powerful reference guide to removing the toxic materials in your environment.
Besides toxicity, plastic and foam orthotics are just not functionally able to move well with your feet. On the other hand, arch supports made from a natural material like leather (cow skin) will form well and flex properly when walked on. Every time you stride you create movement in your arch.
Our bodies are constantly changing. Millions of cells are produced and millions die each day. In ten years we won't even be the same people in many ways! Like your body, your feet are regularly changing, especially when you are adding support to them. It only makes sense that you need to be able to adjust the amount of support in your arch to create the muscular and connective tissue transition required for maximum foot health. Millet hulls (an all natural body support mechanism) are the natural answer to the need for alternating arch support. An orthotic with a pocket that can be filled with varying amounts of millet hulls to create different amounts of support is a better mouse trap. Over time, as you add more support to the orthotic, your body will change and get stronger. This process takes patience and persistence so keep with it and you will see results.
Another good book for you to read might be, "Natural Foot Care", Herbal Treatments, Massage, and Exercises For Healthy Feet by Stephanie Tourles.
Now you know why natural and adjustable arch supports are superior to the conventional ones so that you won't experience the agony of "de-feet".

Online Instructions For Brett's Incredible Orthotics...

Thank you for choosing to buy a pair of my orthotics!  I hope they serve you well.
Reading these instructions is required for proper use of the orthotics!

Inserts:
It is recommend that you use the natural rubber inserts provided with my orthotics for your shoes.  If you don’t want to use the inserts for some reason then extra Velcro is provided for you to use inside the shoe or on your old inserts. (Yes, you have to use Velcro because these orthotics will scrunch up (wrinkle) and move forward out of place.   (If your inserts are glued down inside your shoes you will have to do your best to tear them out without damaging them.)

How to stick the Velcro into your shoes or onto you old inserts:
Clean either the insert or the inside of your shoes in the area that you are going to stick the Velcro down to.  With the Velcro pieces stuck to the orthotic, peel off the sticky paper and just place the orthotic into place on the insert or into the shoe.  If you are placing it into the shoe, open the shoe up as much as possible so that you can meander it into the shoe.)  Press down on the Velcro firmly to make sure it is stuck down really well!   Now un-Velcro the orthotic from the insert or shoe so that you can fill the orthotic with support (buckwheat hulls).

Open the little door(s) on the side of the orthotic and use a spoon to fill as much buckwheat hulls inside that you think might be a good starting point for your arch.  Also spoon some buckwheat hulls into the front pocket for support under the toes.  Place the orthotic either onto the insert and then into the shoe or directly into the shoe.

Try out your new orthotics to get a feel for the amount of support.  Having support for the first time feels strange but you will get used to it quite quickly.  You will probably have to adjust the support several times to get it right.  Remember that you have to keep adding more support as your feet/body adjust.  Keep pushing yourself to use the maximum amount of support for your feet.

Do reflexology on your feet (rub them) regularly so that they can get used to the orthotics better and faster.  You are conditioning your feet and legs to be stronger and healthier the more you walk with support and the more you rub your feet.  You can witch reflexology videos on U-tube for free!  Do not underestimate the power of reflexology!  This is required for healthy feet.  It is not optional!

Care and maintenance:  Please remember to change out the hulls every 2-3 weeks and/or add more whenever necessary…  This is the one thing people forget!  Gradually you lose support because the hulls grind down and flatten out.  It’s best to empty out the orthotics, wash them and then air dry… do not dry in a dryer.  Wool shrinks!  Then refill with hulls.
