Years ago I bought a little buckwheat hull "zafu" meditation sitting cushion from a cool hippie book store in Salt Lake City, Utah called the Golden Braid.   Before I purchased the Zafu, used often for meditation, I opened the cushion and found there to be an interesting substance inside.  I asked the attendant about it and she said that it was buckwheat hulls, and that they were totally organic and natural.  I thought, "Cool, I want one of these!"  Now, years later I am making, selling and of course using all kinds of buckwheat hull products as well as millet hull pillows too.  "I am super duper please with the cushion.  It was a present for a friend.  She loved it.  Amy"  Buckwheat and millet hulls are better than foam for use inside zafu sitting cushions because they create a mold to your body.  They are also great for back supports. (my invention)      My cushions are square (which actually goes against the name zafu which means "round sitting cushion" in Chinese) but I think that square is better so much of the time because you can put them on chairs.  Also you can get your ankles/feet on them much better while sitting on the floor indian style, and lotus position for more comfort!  (see top picture left)  I call my buckwheat and millet hull meditation zafus "Brett's English-Irish-Norweigan-square zafus"!  

For gatherings buckwheat and millet hull zafus are awesome.  For meditation they are so comfortable!  You can also take them to the beach, (if you live near the beach).  You can take these buckweat hull zafus to India and they will think you are hip, neat, cool, a yogy, a guru, or a freak!  You can take them to the park.  I take mine to Jubilee and everyone there is jealous because thier asses are sore after the presentation and mine is not!  lol.
